Siting Text and Memory
by Miriam Slager and L. Ashwyn Collins
video installation 9 min
documentation 4 min (documentation by Bob Belote)
2008

A collaborative video installation exploring text, site and similar childhood memories that we've pieced together. We each used one projector positioned on opposite sides of the space to tell both our own story and the other person's story. Each projection begins with our overlapping texts. Slowly the text becomes more readable and our stories seperate into two story's rather than a muddle of them both in each image.
The text was projected onto the seats of an outdoor performance space.  The viewers were invited to walk through and around the space in order better read the text or in order to have the text displayed on themselves so that others might be better able to decipher the words.
The lights in the space slowly changed colors throughout the piece.
